The 14th of June Sandy Chkeir presented the results of the collaboration between SINOPTICA and ALARM projects in the “1st workshop on data science for GNSS remote sensing”, Potsdam, Germany (https://d4g-2022.de/).

The presentation “Leveraging GNSS tropospheric delays to nowcast severe weather events by assimilation into WRF and by machine learning techniques: the hailstorm of 13 July 2021 on Milano Malpensa airport” focused on a specific case study when a strong hailstorm hit the Emirates EK205 aircraft, damaging the fuselage and forcing the pilot to land in Milano Malpensa just a hour after the take off from the same airport.

Sandy presented the nowcasting of the thundertorm performed with the WRF model developed within SINOPTICA and a machine learning algorithm model within ALARM.
